LOCATION:                  Timonium, Maryland

REPORTS TO:             Vice-President of Publishing

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Editor will assist in the development and production of various publications, including but not limited to The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, the Scoop email newsletter, as well as the Overstreet database project.  Primary responsibilities will include functions in the areas of Editorial, Administration, and Special Projects.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

            Editorial –

  • Writing, editing, proofreading content for publications
  • Assisting in the organization, writing, design, layout, and advertising Sales for all projects as assigned
  • Assisting in assembling and managing photographic and other electronic files
  • Assist in the digital touch up and enhancement of photographic and graphic materials
  • Coordinating with outside authors or contributors
  • Assembling materials for shipment to printers
  • Assisting in communication with printers to ensure accuracy and delivery of finished products
  • Effectively communicate with sister companies on a regular basis

            Administration –

  • Selling advertising and creating invoices for advertisements
  • Maintain tracking logs for advertisements and advertisement revenue
  • Assisting in mailings and other daily office business

            Special Projects -

  • Assisting in the management of electronic servers and all files required for Gemstone publications
  • Providing additional production and/or creative support for special projects when required
  • Attending trade shows, interacting with key industry personnel, keeping up with industry trends and events through interaction with or review of other trade publications and industry figures
  • All other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Writing, Journalism, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Quark
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, with little supervision
  • Able to adapt to fluctuating deadlines
  • Familiarity with the business of comics and collectibles
