POSITION TITLE:  Graphic Design Assistant

LOCATION:   Hunt Valley, Maryland

DATE:  October, 2014

REPORTS TO:  Marketing Production Manager

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Full time entry level Graphic Design Assistant needed to do production work. Majority of work is for print publications including the monthly 500 page Previews Catalog, but other projects include formatting artwork for print and web use, printing trade show signs, and doing weekly sales flyers. Person needs to be willing to work as part of a Graphic Design team.  There is potential to grow in this position as skills advance.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Learning the PREVIEWS catalog layout process which includes formatting artwork, doing layout in InDesign, making copies for circulation to staff members, and doing corrections.
  • Learning artwork specs and linking to the database which runs product listings on the company website.
  • Doing layout for weekly sales flyers that get posted to the web.
  • Printing trade show signs to our large format sign printer. Eventually learning to design these same signs using Photoshop.
  • Willingness to learn and communicate with our other Graphic Designers is especially important. Many projects are shared efforts where one person will start and someone else may jump in to do corrections. Everyone works together to get the job done.
  • Other projects may include small catalogs, advertisements, product sell sheets, and more.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Would prefer someone with a degree in Graphic Design, Communications, or a related field; or prior work experience in a graphic design position. Portfolio will be required at time of interview.
  • Software experience with: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Ability to learn requirements quickly and pick-up speed in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task. Workload will require switching gears to complete a new priority, and then going back to the original task that may also have a deadline looming.
  • Must be willing to work late if necessary to meet monthly catalog deadlines
