Diamond Daily has learned that the Duel Masters anime series will debut on Cartoon Network today, February 27, resulting in increased consumer demand for related products, including Dreamwave Productions' Duel Masters comics series and Wizard of the Coast's Duel Masters Trading Card Game (TCG)!
Released in mid-2002 in Japan, the Duel Masters TCG (Starter Display: JAN043973J, Booster Display: JAN043972J) has already sold over 1.25M starter sets and 89M booster packs, and is targeted for a global, English-language release in March 2004. Featuring artwork by some of Japan's best fantasy artists, the game is expected to be equally successful in America.
Written by Brian Augustyn, and featuring art by Jeremy Tionson, the 32-page, full-color Duel Masters #1 ( SEP032237/5150/52-55E) kicks off an ongoing, monthly series starring Shobu -- an ordinary kid and Duel Master tournament champion. Thanks to his mysterious and missing father, Shobu has an unexpected edge in the card games, for he alone can directly access the "Zone," a dimensional realm where mythical and mystical battles are fought between wild beings! Furthermore, retailers should note that the debut issue features variant covers drawn by Dreamwave's hottest artists, including the studio's founder, Pat Lee!
