Marvel Promotes Spider-Man, CSLS with Free Newspaper Comics

As part of an ambitious marketing plan that’s distributing 10 million comic books to consumers every week, Marvel Comics is giving away free Spider-Man reprints in selected major metropolitan newspapers, promoting both the world-famous Wall-Crawler and the Comic Shop Locator Service (CSLS)!

As a result of the “Spider-Man Collectible Series” program, serialized, eight-page reprints of key Spider-Man stories have been included in newspapers that include the New York Post, the Chicago Sun-Times, the San Diego Union-Tribune and many more, with a new issue being released each week. (Please Note: Refer to the end of this article for a complete listing of newspapers.) Of interest to specialty retailers is the fact that the final interior page of each copy tells readers they can find Marvel Comics titles at their local comic shop by calling the CSLS’s toll-free number (888-COMIC-BOOK)!

Now in its fifth week, the program has given away 50 million comics, with more to come. With this national exposure, store owners can count on increased consumer interest in Spider-Man and the Marvel line in general, and thanks to the Comic Shop Locator Service inclusion, fans will know where to find them! Now in its 10th year of operation, the CSLS is dedicated to making it as easy as possible for people to find the comics specialty shops nearest them. Supported by a wide range of industry vendors, the service has given out more than 1,000,000 referrals to over 500,000 consumers, with more being referred every day.
