Top 100 Comics: June 2011
To save his family and friends from the rampage of the Green Goblin, Peter Parker gave his life and made the ultimate sacrifice in Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley's Ultimate Spider-Man #160 from Marvel Comics, June's best-selling comic book.
Marvel Comics had a strong month in JUne, taking seven of the top ten spots on the month's sales charts. Fear Itself #3, the latest chapter of Matt Fraction and Stuart Immonen's crossover event, was the number two best-selling book for the month. Avengers #14, from Bendis and Chris Bachalo and a Fear Itself crossover issue, ranked #4. Jonathan Hickman and Barry Kitson's FF #5 ranked #5; Bendis, Mike Deodato, and Howard Chaykin's New Avengers #13 ranked #6; Dan Slott and Giuseppe Camuncoli's Amazing Spider-Man #663 ranked #7; and Slott, Christos Gage, and Camuncoli's Amazing Spider-Man #664 ranked #10.
DC Comics rounded out the top ten with three titles, led by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert's Flashpoint #2, the second part of this summer's crossover event, which ranked #3 for the month. Also in the top ten were Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham's Batman Incorporated #7 at #8 and Judd Winick and Guillem March's Batman and Robin #24 at #9.
Among the premier publishers, Dark Horse Comics' Hellboy: The Fury #1, the debut issue of a new series from Mike Mignola and Duncan Fegredo, ranked #117 for June. IDW Publishing's top-selling title in June was The Rocketeer Adventures #2, which ranked #147 for the month. Finally, Image Comics' The Walking Dead #86 from Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard was the publisher's top book, ranked #52 for the month.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.
Data for Diamond’s sales charts – which include the monthly market shares and all top product charts – are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from a universe of over 3,500 accounts, comprised of comic book specialty shops and other merchant stores and buyers. The shops are primarily located in North America, with a percentage of sales also to international stores and buyers located throughout the world. The account base includes not only brick-and-mortar comic book specialty shops, but also Internet stores, chain stores, and other specialty stores.
Unit and dollars sales are calculated based upon orders invoiced and shipped to Diamond accounts during any given month, which comprises initial pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable.
About the Diamond Sales Index: The Sales Index of selected monthly Best Seller Charts is presented as a comparative tool for retailers and publishers. It presents Diamond’s monthly sales for individual titles in relation to Diamond’s total sales for the issue of DC Comics' monthly Batman comic book. (Batman is used as the control title – with a value of 100 – because sales of Batman usually remain relatively stable.) This allows for easy comparison to other titles and helps retailers gauge their orders for all other titles. This formula is only a guide, other factors may impact a titles’ ability to sell in certain locations and clientele.
