Top 100 Comics: March 2010
The long-awaited conclusion to DC Comics' cosmic crossover, Blackest Night #8, was, like its seven preceding issues, the best-selling comic book in the month of its release, giving DC Comics the top spot on the top comics sales charts for March and the top spot for eight of the past nine months.
In total, DC Comics had four of the ten best-selling comics for the month. In addition to Blackest Night #2, two Blackest Night tie-in books — Green Lantern #52 at #3 and Green Lantern Corps #4 at #5 — placed in the top ten. Dc Comics' other top-ten comic book title for the month was Batman and Robin #10, the second part of the "Batman Vs. Robin" storyline that leads into Grant Morrison's upcoming The Return of Bruce Wayne mini-series; the book ranked at #4 for the month.
Marvel Comics rounded out the top ten with six books. Siege #3, the third part of the Brian Michael Bendis/Olivier Coipel series that reunites the Avengers against its greatest threat, ranked #2 for the month. Two Siege tie-ins — New Avengers #63 at #6 and Dark Avengers #15 at #7 — also placed in the top 10. Ultimate Comics: New Ultimates #1, the first issue of a new team book set in Marvel's Ultimate Universe, placed #8. Uncanny X-Men #522, featuring the return of fan-favorite X-Men character Kitty Pryde, ranked #9, and Amazing Spider-Man #623, part of "The Gauntlet" storyline that redefines Spider-Man's villains for the 21st-century, ranked #10.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.
Data for Diamond’s sales charts – which include the monthly market shares and all top product charts – are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from a universe of over 3,500 accounts, comprised of comic book specialty shops and other merchant stores and buyers. The shops are primarily located in North America, with a percentage of sales also to international stores and buyers located throughout the world. The account base includes not only brick-and-mortar comic book specialty shops, but also Internet stores, chain stores, and other specialty stores.
Unit and dollars sales are calculated based upon orders invoiced and shipped to Diamond accounts during any given month, which comprises initial pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable.
About the Diamond Sales Index: The Sales Index of selected monthly Best Seller Charts is presented as a comparative tool for retailers and publishers. It presents Diamond’s monthly sales for individual titles in relation to Diamond’s total sales for the issue of DC Comics' monthly Batman comic book. (Batman is used as the control title – with a value of 100 – because sales of Batman usually remain relatively stable.) This allows for easy comparison to other titles and helps retailers gauge their orders for all other titles. This formula is only a guide, other factors may impact a titles’ ability to sell in certain locations and clientele.
