Archie & Gang visit Baltimore!

Mamaroneck, NY – Sept. 6, 2011  It’s summertime and Archie Comics is taking a road trip across America in order to advocate reading and general literacy! The Archie Comics Literacy Tour is a celebration of Archie's storied 70-year history as well as a mission to promote literacy through comic books.

Starting at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, Archie will travel cross-country stopping off at comic book stores, children's bookstores, museums and schools to run creative educational workshops and champion the legacy of Archie Comics through titles new and old. Comic Book Fairs (ComicBookFairs.com), a division of Archie Comics built on the mission to advocate the use of comic books in education to ignite interest in becoming a lifelong reader, will be working with these venues to build strong connections within their community and establish Archie Comics as a learning tool for educators. Comic Book Fairs (ComicBookFairs.com) can also be a great fund-raising tool for schools, where schools host a fair and keep 40% of the funds raised!

With more than two decades as an educator, Archie Comics Co-CEO Nancy Silberkleit, featured in the July, 2011 issue of Commerce Magazine, brings her experience and passion for literacy to the Comic Book Fairs movement!

On September 24th, the Archie Comics Literacy Tour will roll into Baltimore, MD’s Geppi’s Entertainment Museum at Camden Yards at 301 W. Camden Street . This fantastic museum’s goals to promote a deeper appreciation of the cartoonists and their work through an presentation of American popular culture with  a emphasis on comic history go hand in hand with the goals of the Archie Literacy Tour.

“Comic Books + Children = Reading” is the mantra of co- CEO Nancy Silberkleit.

“We at Archie feel strongly that our comic books can be a great conduit to literacy and academic concepts, especially for reluctant readers. The Archie Comics Literacy Tour will be a great trip not just for us, but also for our fans-- past, present, and future.”
