Press Release (SANTA MONICA, CA & BALTIMORE, MD) — (March 23, 2016) Comic-Con HQ (CCHQ), the official pop culture network for all things Comic-Con,  and Diamond Comic Distributors, the leader in the distribution of comic books, graphic novels and pop culture merchandise, have signed a multi-level agreement for the official title sponsorship of Free Comic Book Day 2016.

An annual event held on the first Saturday in May, Free Comic Book Day celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2016, with participating comic book shops around the world giving away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes in. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, May 7th, with over 2,300 comic shops expected to participate and give away over six million free comics to over 1.5 million fans.

CCHQ will launch free Beta access to the network in conjunction with Free Comic Book Day. Anyone signing up to participate in the Beta at Comic-Con HQ will have exclusive free and unlimited access through July 25, which includes week-long live coverage of San Diego Comic-Con.

As Free Comic Book Day’s inaugural title sponsor, Comic-Con HQ and Diamond will work together to offset costs for comic shop retailers participating in Free Comic Book Day, including reducing rates on FCBD store bags. “CCHQ is honored to support comic book retailers and help more people enjoy such an extraordinary event,” said Joe LeFavi, Ambassador of Awesome, Comic-Con HQ. “Comic book fans have been at the heart of Comic-Con from the very beginning, so it is only fitting that we launch our Free Beta on Free Comic Book Day.”

"Establishing and cultivating relationships with leading companies like Comic-Con HQ is one of the most rewarding aspects of coordinating Free Comic Book Day," said Danielle Szarka, Advertising Partnerships Marketing Manager for Diamond. “Securing them as the sole title sponsor for this year’s event validates Free Comic Book Day’s status as one of the premier events in the comics industry. Our partnership will serve as a great platform to get CCHQ’s message out to one of the largest and most influential fan communities in the world: the true tastemakers of comics and pop culture."

Comic-Con HQ joins other Free Comic Book Day sponsors, including Gold Book Sponsors, Dark Horse Comics, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, IDW Publishing, Image Comics, Bongo Comics, BOOM! Studios, Dynamite Entertainment, Valiant Entertainment and Viz Media; as well as additional sponsors, DK Publishing, Lego, New York Comic Con and Transcontinental Printing.

With titles that range from action-packed super-hero fare and the hottest licensed TV and film tie-ins, to all-ages fun and more, Free Comic Book Day 2016 is poised to attract readers of all tastes into participating comic book shops on May 7th.
