Top 100 Graphic Novels: February 2011
Bruce Wayne, lost in time after the events of Final Crisis, embarked on an epic journey through time to return to the present in Grant Morrison's Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne mini-series, and its collected edition in the Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne Deluxe Edition hardcover from DC Comics was the best-selling graphic novel to comics specialty retailers in February.
All told, DC Comics had four of the top ten best-selling graphic novels in February. DMZ Volume 9: M.I.A. ranked #4, Daytripper ranked #6, and Scalped Volume 7: Rez Blue ranked #7.
Image Comics had two volumes in the top ten. The collected edition of the first story arc of Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma's blockbuster series Morning Glories — Morning Glories Volume 1: For a Better Future — was the #2 best-selling graphic novel in February. Robert Kirkman's zombie epic The Walking Dead continued to do well, with the first volume The Walking Dead: Days Gone Bye, ranked #10 for the month.
Marvel Comics' top graphic novel in February was the Nemesis Premiere hardcover, collecting the best-selling creator-owned mini-series by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven; the volume ranked #5 for the month.
Dark Horse Comics had two volumes in the top ten. Lead the way was Savage Sword of Conan Volume 9 at #8, followed by Star Wars: The Old Republic Volume 1: Blood of Empire at #9.
Finishing the top ten in February was VIZ Media, with Naruto Volume 50 at #3. Naruto was also the month's top-selling manga to comics specialty retailers.
Also among Premier Publishers, IDW Publishing's top selling graphic novel in February was True Blood Volume 1: All Together Now, the collected edition of the first mini-series based on HBO's hit vampire series. True Blood ranked #15 for the month.

For retailers, Diamond offers the Top 300 Comics and Top 300 Graphic Novels sales charts on the Diamond Tools page of the Diamond Retailer Services website to provide more information about the industry's top selling publications.
How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.
Data for Diamond’s sales charts – which include the monthly market shares and all top product charts – are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from a universe of over 3,500 accounts, comprised of comic book specialty shops and other merchant stores and buyers. The shops are primarily located in North America, with a percentage of sales also to international stores and buyers located throughout the world. The account base includes not only brick-and-mortar comic book specialty shops, but also Internet stores, chain stores, and other specialty stores.
Unit and dollars sales are calculated based upon orders invoiced and shipped to Diamond accounts during any given month, which comprises initial pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable.
About the Diamond Sales Index: The Sales Index of selected monthly Best Seller Charts is presented as a comparative tool for retailers and publishers. It presents Diamond’s monthly sales for individual titles in relation to Diamond’s total sales for the issue of DC Comics' monthly Batman comic book. (Batman is used as the control title – with a value of 100 – because sales of Batman usually remain relatively stable.) This allows for easy comparison to other titles and helps retailers gauge their orders for all other titles. This formula is only a guide, other factors may impact a titles’ ability to sell in certain locations and clientele.
