Diamond to Serve Baltimore Distribution Center Customers from Memphis Facility
Diamond has announced that it will be consolidating its warehouse
operations by switching customers currently served out of Baltimore, MD, to its
Distribution Center in Memphis, TN. The first shipment scheduled to be processed
by Memphis will be arriving in stores on September 18.
Diamond customers who obtain their product via UPS will continue to receive shipments on Wednesday, via UPS out of Memphis. Retailers who currently pick-up in Baltimore will be given the option of receiving their shipments via UPS, or picking up product at a proposed new drop-point in Baltimore (that will be created if enough customers express a preference for picking up their weekly shipments).
International customers will continue to be serviced by Wilson or their freight forwarder of choice, with no change to flights or air freight rates.
Diamond's Baltimore employees have been encouraged to apply for positions in Memphis, and several current high-level operations personnel will be joining Diamond VP Operations Cindy Fournier in Memphis to assist with the transition. In addition, Plattsburgh Regional Operations Manager Debby Garner will be relocating to Memphis permanently. (Ed Briggs is being promoted to the position of Regional Manager in Plattsburgh.)
One benefit of this change for current Baltimore Distribution Center customers is that all of Diamond's stock in Memphis - its main inventory hub - is considered “local” for them, so that any in-stock Reorder entered by close of business Thursday can now be reshipped with their next weekly shipment. In addition, as a Memphis customer, they will be able to elect to “Insta-Ship” case quantities of cards, toys, and other products as soon as they are ready for shipment, rather than having the items held for delivery with their regular Wednesday shipment.
Retailers wanting more information regarding these benefits or the consolidation itself should contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative.
