Desperado Publishing Joins Image Comics!

Image Comics is proud to announce the addition of Desperado Publishing to its lineup!

Desperado was created by writer/editor Joe Pruett with the idea of gathering the comics industry's most respected talents under one banner, and allowing them the freedom to craft their own creations while retaining complete control of them. To that end, Pruett assembled a stellar collection of talent, including Brian Bolland, P. Craig Russell, Bob Burden, Paul Jenkins, Phil Hester, John McCrea, Tony Harris, Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, Andrew Robinson, Bernie Wrightson, and Brian Stelfreeze, amongst others.

After initially planning on launching the Desperado line alone, the benefits that Image brought to the table eventually swayed Pruett.

"Image Comics has always offered a creator-friendly environment," said Pruett. "My experiences with Image have always been outstanding and I believe that this partnership will be mutually beneficial to both parties. Our goals are similar in that we both believe in total creative freedom and control by the respective creators. Desperado gets the benefit of Image's resources and positioning, while Image gets the benefit of the quality of talent we'll be bringing to the table."

The first book to premiere under the Desperado banner will be the long-awaited return of Burden's classic, Flaming Carrot. The first issue of a brand-new, ongoing, quarterly series will hit shops in December, and fans should expect the same brand of literate lunacy they've come to expect from Burden in the pages of both Flaming Carrot and Mystery Men.

Also debuting in December is the Desperado Primer, which will give readers a chance to sample the amazing array of talent assembled under the longhorns of Desperado, for an introductory price of $1.99. The book also features two original stories. The first, written by Jenkins, features the collaborative talents of artists Adam Hughes, Stelfreeze, Cully Hamner, Hester, Kelsey Shannon, and Jason Pearson. The second tale is a prologue to Harris's Roundeye, featuring story and art by Harris. As if that weren't enough artistic goodness, the Desperado Primer will come with a Bolland-illustrated cover.

This initial offering is designed to generate excitement amongst fans by giving them a glimpse of what's to come. Books previewed include work by Wrightson, Bruce Jones, Russell, McCrea, Palmiotti, Vince Locke, Goran Sudzuka, Robinson, Tim Bradstreet, Ron Marz, Bolland, and others.

"This is truly an exciting time for both Desperado Publishing and Image Comics," said Pruett. "I think the time is right for a return to high-profile, creator-owned titles and projects. Super-heroes continue to dominate the marketplace like never before, but if we as an industry want to push this medium to the next level, we need to follow the blueprints in Europe and Japan. There's room out there for every type of story, not just super-hero comics. Don't get me wrong. I love super-hero comics, but there needs to be more variety, just as there is in the literary world. Desperado is about offering choices. Thanks to Image, we'll be able to offer those choices to a larger audience."

"Over the last few months a number of moves have been made to help make Image Comics a bigger, better comic book company," said Image Publisher Erik Larsen. "Joe Pruett and Desperado bring a lot of exciting projects to Image. This is yet another step in the right direction.
