Diamond Announces Top Products for June 2014
(BALTIMORE, MD) — (July 11, 2014) — Batman confronts the Riddler in the penultimate chapter of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's " Zero Year" storyline in DC Entertainment's Batman #32, the best-selling comic book of June 2014 according to information provided by Diamond Comic Distributors, the world's largest distributor of comics, graphic novels, and pop culture merchandise.
Marvel Comics had four titles place among June's top ten best-selling comics, led by Amazing Spider-Man #3 at #2. DC Entertainment had five titles in the top ten. Rounding out the top ten was Image Comics with The Walking Dead #128 at #9.
Marvel Comics was June's top publisher with a 33.71% dollar market share and a 35.68% unit market share. DC Entertainment was second with a 29.88% dollar share and 33.20% unit share. Image Comics was third with a 8.86% dollar share and a 10.51% unit share. IDW Publishing's dollar share in June was 5.60% and Dark Horse Comics' was 5.57%.
A magical accident by Sabrina the Teenage Witch triggers the zombie apocalypse in Riverdale, USA in Archie Comics' Afterlife with Archie Volume 1: Escape from Riverdale by Roberto Aguirre Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla, the best-selling graphic novel of June. Also of note, Image Comics had four titles in the top ten, led by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's Velvet Volume 1: Before the Living End at #3.
Complemented by illustrations by Brian Froud, A.C.H. Smith's novelization of Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal returned to print in a new hardcover edition from BOOM! Studios and was June's best-selling book. Also notable, Dark Horse Comics had two book in the top ten -- Daniel Way's real-life history of EVE Online, EVE: True Stories, at #3, and the perennial best-seller Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia at #7.
Based on a design by Ant Lucia, DC Collectibles' DC Comics Bombshells: Black Canary Statue the June's best-selling toy product, and one of their six products in the top ten. Also in the top ten was Diamond Select Toys with three products, led by the Marvel Select: Amazing Spider-Man 2 Action Figure at #4.
Hasbro's Risk: Legacy, a multi-generation revision of the venerable strategy board game, was June's best-selling game product.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.
Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which includes the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from sales made to thousands of comic book specialty shops located in North America and around the world. Additional sales made to online merchants and other specialty stores may be included as well.
Unit and dollar market shares are calculated based upon orders for comic books, graphic novels, and magazines invoiced and shipped to Diamond customers during any given month, which comprises pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable. Please note that comics marked with an asterisk (*) have had their reported quantities reduced due to retailer returnability, and thus may rank lower on the charts than their actual sales would reflect.
The New Titles Count Chart includes all titles that were invoiced by Diamond to retailers for the first time during the month and is not the official solicited title count for the month. Variant edition comic books and graphic novels at the same price point count as a single SKU. Variant edition comic books, lenticular covers, digital combo packs, and graphic novels at different price points count as separate SKUs for each edition.
