POSITION: Inventory Control Specialist              

DEPT: Purchasing

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for coordinating the accomplishment of inventory management activities.  The qualified applicant will develop strong working relationships with purchasing brand managers, operations regional managers, and the order processing department to create and maintain cohesive inventory management procedures and reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Create, institute and maintain structured inventory management procedures that include:    

  •    Monitoring and maintaining inventory levels at all inventory hubs
  •    Auditing initial stocking levels of new items
  •    Auditing sell through on initial purchases of inventory extras
  •    Working with all interested parties to dispose of slow moving and dead stock
  •    Working with the sales department to create new programs aimed at increasing the sales velocity on stocked items
  •     Working with purchasing and order processing to refine procedures for insuring that we have adequate stock of consignment and brokerage “evergreen” skus

Periodically review purchasing, sales, and inventory reports to assure that procedures are having the desired effect on the company’s stocking position.

Make recommendations to supervisor and the VP of purchasing as to changes in stocking strategies for various groups of items.

Coordinate the movement of inventory among various facilities to best meet customer demand.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with respect to:     

  •    Sales velocity
  •    Inventory position
  •    Remarketing (Offered again) of selected inventory items
  •    Liquidation sales
  •    Remaindering and destruction of dead stock
  •    Out of stock items
  •    Special projects and events

Work closely with purchasing upper management to analyze inventory position, and to resolve problem situations.  (Overstocking and under stocking.)

All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  •    High School degree or equivalent
  •    Inventory Management Experience
  •    Extensive experience using MS Excel and MS Access
  •    Professional appearance and demeanor
  •    Good organizational skills a must
  •    Strong phone manner, communication follow-through and negotiation skills a must
  •    Must be willing to travel occasionally (warehouse visits) and work weekends if necessary
