POSITION SUMMARY:

Primary responsibilities include duties in the areas of Editorial, Administration, and Special Projects. These include but are not limited to coordinating and engaging in various aspects of book production of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, Hake's Price Guide to Character Toys, and other Gemstone publications produced.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Editorial
Primary duties in this area include writing, editing and proofing content for publications, assisting in the organization, design and layout of all books, with particular attention to the listings and editorial pages, assisting in the assembling and managing of all photographic and other electronic files, assisting in the digital touch-up and enhancement of all photographic and graphic materials, coordinating efforts with outside authors or contributors, assembling final electronic files, disks and related materials for shipment to printers, proofing and assisting in corrections for final printed books, assisting in communication with printers to aid in smooth completion and delivery of finished products. Other duties in this area include contributing articles, photographic materials and research to all other Gemstone publications, and writing articles and participating in interviews with other publications and websites representing the company and industry in general.

Administrative
Primary duties in this area include attending trade shows, tasks concerning layout and file management for books, websites and other publications, interacting with key industry personnel, keeping up with industry trends and events through interaction with or review of other trade publications and industry figures.

Special Projects
Primary duties in this area include assisting in the management of electronic servers and all files required for Gemstone publications, providing additional production and/or creative support for special projects when required, assisting in mailings and other daily office business, and other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or related field.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year professional writing or editing experience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal and communication skills.
  • Must be fluent with Microsoft Office, Photoshop and Quark.
  • Must posses the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Knowledge of comics and collectibles a plus.
