Bill Schanes Marks 25 Years with Diamond
On November 12, Diamond Vice President of Purchasing Bill Schanes marked his 25th anniversary with the company, just the latest of many achievements that have distinguished a long career in the comic industry.
Bill’s started in comics as the President & Publisher of Pacific Comics, a joint retail and distribution company, which later included a publishing operation that he ran from 1971 to 1984. In addition to being the first publisher of Dave Stevens’s The Rocketeer, Bill, along with his brother, Steve, was honored to publish Jack Kirby’s return to comics with Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers and Silver Star. Bill not only published several noteworthy titles & creators, but also played a major role in establishing the concept of creators’ rights and royalties.
In 1985, Bill brought his talents to Diamond, initially working in Customer Service & Sales before becoming involved with its Purchasing & Order Processing Departments. Throughout, he has excelled in developing solid relationships with retailers and suppliers alike. His dedication to providing the best for both sets a high standard that he and his colleagues at Diamond consistently aspire to maintain or surpass.
“I’ve really enjoyed working so closely with all of my fellow Diamond employees over the last 25 years,” Bill said. “It’s been especially gratifying to see our company and industry grow from what was a truly niche hobby in the early ‘70’s to a thriving business thanks to the contributions of comic book specialty retailers, our suppliers, and all of our employees. It’s been a fun ride so far and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
