Diamond to Distribute Oblagon Inc. to Bookstores
Diamond Comic Distributors and Oblagon Inc.
have reached an agreement naming Diamond as the exclusive U.S. and non-exclusive
worldwide distributor of the publisher's English-language graphic novels to the
bookstore, library, warehouse club, and mass merchandise markets. The deal
allows Oblagon to continue selling its products through certain other mass
merchandise venues.
Oblagon Inc. is home to Syd Mead, an acclaimed animator, artist, and designer with more than a half-century of professional experience to his credit. In addition to bringing his talents to such blockbuster U.S. films as Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Blade Runner, and Tron, Mead has also created designs for a number of top anime, including the white-hot Mobile Suit Gundam. Founded in 1985, Oblagon serves as a showcase for Mead's artwork and limited edition print releases, such as Oblagon; Concepts of Syd Mead, Syd Mead's Sentury, the Studio Image series, and others.
"Mead's visionary style and futuristic sensibilities have thrilled countless specialty market readers," said Diamond Vice President of Purchasing Bill Schanes, "indicating strong levels of marketability for his titles amongst like-minded consumers in mass market outlets."
"When I visualize the future it is not a fantasy, but a reality we have yet to experience," said Mead.
Diamond's Sales Team will begin working with bookstores, book wholesalers, warehouse clubs, mass merchandisers, and libraries to place Oblagon's graphic novels across the country. "For the past 50 years, Mead has been at the forefront of artistic innovation," Schanes added, "and we look forward to introducing this important talent to countless new readers in the mainstream."
