Diamond Caution Codes Change in February
Effective with the February Previews, and in response to retailer suggestions, Diamond will change the Caution Codes used to alert retailers to special circumstances regarding an item's international restrictions, content and shipping date.
Previously, Diamond used four single-digit Caution Codes -- 0 through 2 -- to note information about products. [For example, a standard disclaimer would be listed as (C: 1).] Now, Diamond will use a three-digit system. Each digit will reflect a different potential caution, with each Caution Code following this pattern: (C: #-#-#).
The first Caution Code digit will reflect a product's international restrictions. Products with no international restrictions will be marked with a "0" in the first digit, while products with international restrictions will be noted with a "1" in the first digit.
The second Caution Code digit will indicate whether or not the product's contents are subject to change. Contents with no potential content changes will use a "0" for the second digit, while products with potential content changes will use a "1."
The third and final Caution Code digit will reveal any shipping advisories assigned to a product. A product that ships according to the standard shipping schedule (within 30 days of the Previews cover date month) will use a "0" for the third digit. Items that ship outside the standard shipping schedule will be noted with the following: 60-day disclaimers (items that ship an additional 60 days beyond the standard shipping schedule) will be noted with a "1" and 90-day disclaimers with a "2".
For example, a product with no international restrictions, contents that might change, and a 90-day shipping advisory will be noted with (C: 0-1-2). Furthermore, products without cautions -- i.e., (C: 0-0-0) -- will not carry a Caution Code in their Previews Retailer Order Form listings.
Retailers with further questions about these changes should contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative.
