• Vermont's Bennington College has announced it will host a symposium on comic books and graphic novels from April 30 through May 2.

In addition to screening a number of comic book film adaptations, the symposium will host a wide range of panel discussions and slide lectures, which will be led by mainstream and alternative writers and artists from comics' Silver Age to the present. Topics will include: the evolution of the super-hero, humor in comics, sequential narration and literary form, graphic storytelling, comics and higher education, and the future of the comic book.

Scheduled speakers include: Mike Mignola (Hellboy), James Kochalka (Monkey Vs. Robot), John Arcudi (The Mask), Steve Bissette (Swamp Thing), Bob Fingerman (Minimum Wage), Ramona Fradon (Aquaman), John Kerschbaum (Wiggly Reader), Louise Simonson (Power Pack), Walter Simonson (Thor), Joe Staton (E-Man), James Sturm (The Golem's Mighty Swing), and representatives of Kleiser-Walczak Studios, which created special effects for such comics-based films as X-Men, Judge Dredd, and others.
