Sachs & Violens to Return...in Fallen Angel
On his weblog and in an interview at Newsarama, comic book
creator Peter David has announced the first official guest stars for his
critically-lauded Fallen Angel, and as fans might expect given the
series' mysterious, non-traditional form, the guest stars in question are
probably the last ones you'd expect: J.J. Sachs and Ernie "Violens"
Schultz.
The two characters hail from the Sachs & Violens mini-series that David created with George Perez for Epic's Heavy Hitters imprint in the 1990s. At the time, the series was a drastic departure for both men (renowned for their super-hero work) as it dealt frankly with sexuality and violence, as well as how these issues impacted the main characters.
Since the end of the mini-series, fans have frequently requested new appearances for the duo, and now David is answering that call with a two-part story in Fallen Angel #19 and #20 (to be solicited in future issues of Previews). The two issues will feature covers by Sachs & Violens co-creator Perez.
Given the critical acclaim surrounding Fallen Angel and the interest sure to be sparked by the return of two cult-favorite characters (to say nothing of superstar Perez's covers), retailers should consider stocking up on the Fallen Angel trade paperback, which features an introduction by Harlan Ellison and serves as an excellent introduction to the series in general.
