From The Scoop: Did You Know..? - The Buzz on Maggie

From the January 6 issue of Gemstone Publishing's The Scoop:

Just when you thought there were no new, suitable all-ages shows left for your kids to watch unsupervised, The Disney Channel introduced The Buzz on Maggie.

This delightful little series about a fashion-forward, tween-aged fly with pink hair and an empowered attitude debuted last summer--June 2005. The original series is the brainchild of Dave Polsky and director David Wasson (creator of Cartoon Network's Time Squad).

It's rare that today's kid gets an innocent series with anthropomorphic bugs--even rarer that a series featuring anthropomorphic bugs targets a female audience--but such is the case with Maggie Pesky. The second of four children in the Pesky family, Maggie dreams of becoming a rock star, plays guitar, avoids schoolwork, longs for popularity, and shops and gossips with her best friend, Rayna Cartflight, a drummer and fellow fly.

The Peskys and their neighbors live in the town of Stickyfeet, with inhabitants being members of other insect genera and species. There are beetles, slugs, moths, and ants in town. Most of the action takes place at Maggie's school, where her older brother Aldrin is a jock and Dawn Slugworthy is Maggie's rival and Aldrin's love interest.

Pretty intricate for a kid's show--and yet there's no violence, melodrama, or double entendre. Just kid-friendly good time, cute voices, fantastically fun animation, and a few moral lessons thrown in for good measure.

So if you didn't know The Buzz on Maggie, consider yourself clued in. New episodes will air through 2006. Last year's episodes are available on the Toon Disney network. Visit Maggie's official site to find out more about her: http://psc.disney.go.com/disneychannel/buzzonmaggie/index.html.
