Free Comic Book Day Spotlight: Libraries!

Remember: You must buy at least $45.00 worth of the Gold Sponsor titles in order to be a participating retailer for FCBD 2004. You must also own a storefront business and agree to give away the comics on July 3, 2004.

Libraries have become a big part of Free Comic Book Day since its inception. In years past, participating retailers have teamed up with their local libraries in order to cross-promote. The result is the best of both worlds for both parties: The libraries become part of a fun event, and the comic book stores get extra exposure in their communities!

Speak to your local librarian about Free Comic Book Day. Chances are, he or she already knows about it, as Diamond regularly receives dozens of e-mails from libraries around the U.S. that want to be a part of Free Comic Book Day.

The best cross-promotion works like so: You donate a quantity of your FCBD editions to the library for them to give away on July 3. (You can sweeten the deal with some FCBD promotional products, such as posters, window clings, etc. See the Diamond Daily story on FCBD promotional items for more details.) Stamp the free books with your store information, or insert your own flier or bookmark with your store information.

As a result, the library gets to give away comics and make its patrons happy, and you reach an audience that may not be aware of your store.

There are many ways to team up with your local library for FCBD and even after the event. It's a terrific promotional opportunity and great way to spread the word about comics and your store to the people who live in your area.

Take these opportunities into account when you order your FCBD editions - why not order a few extra of the low-cost comics available for Free Comic Book Day and donate them to your local library as described above? It'll be the beginning of a relationship that will pay dividends now and in the future!

If you'd like to partner with a library for FCBD, but don't know how to get started use the items listed below to signal your interest to Diamond. Simple order "1" for each and you will be added to a list Diamond maintains in order to match up interested comic book stores with libraries in their area.
