Art Asylum, DST Join Forces for Star Trek Collectibles

This article was available as a "Daily Extra" from the main page of Diamond Online's Retailer Services Area at 3:21 p.m. E.T. on March 1:

Diamond Select Toys and Collectibles, LLC (DST) has announced a partnership with Art Asylum to produce all future Star Trek products.

This relationship transfers responsibilities such as marketing, sales, and distribution to DST, with Art Asylum maintaining sculpting and design duties. Previously, Art Asylum and DST have collaborated on the bestselling line of Marvel MiniMates, amongst other products.

The first figures in this new partnership will come from the Star Trek: The Next Generation series, with plans for releases based on other Star Trek series as well. Working with Art Asylum's designers, DST plans to stay with "the scale and lines that Art Asylum has already succeeded with," said DST Director Chuck Terceira. The only exception is DST's planned wave of Star Trek MiniMates, which will be in the same 2" scale of Art Asylum's C3 line and not the 3" scale of the original Star Trek MiniMates.

"The opportunity for Art Asylum to work with DST on the Trek program will be a real blessing for the fans," said Art Asylum's Adam Unger. "We're putting together a great line for the fall of '05, much deeper than in the past, and we're hoping to extend this relationship for many years to come."

"Viacom Consumer Products is delighted to partner with Diamond, a leader in the specialty and collectible business, to continue our strong tradition of outstanding Star Trek product" said Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products Vice President, Hard Goods Shreice Torres.

"Art Asylum is the key to the success of this endeavor," added Terceira. "Their work on the Trek license has set a new standard that we are privileged to continue. This is just a combining of the best of both worlds -- their sculpting, design and expertise, with our marketing and access to the specialty market, which will provide great products, and a greater variety of products, for Star Trek's legions of fans."
