Originally, a 42-volume manga in Japan, Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball was split into two parts by Viz for its North American release. Dragon Ball was made up of volumes 1-16 and Dragon Ball Z comprised volumes 17-42. A mainstay of Viz’s publishing library since 1988, Dragon Ball was adapted into a anime series that became the top-rated show on the Cartoon Network, and grew into a brand in itself with numerous movies, merchandise and over 30 video games.
Shonen Jump will celebrate the conclusion of this historic series with its July 2006 Issue (MAR063476E). Shipping June 7, the magazine will feature a special dual cover with two Dragon Ball images, a sneak preview of the final chapter, an article detailing the 10 Best Fights in Dragon Ball history and an exclusive interview with Toriyama.
“It’s an exciting but poignant occasion for our company, with this manga giant finishing its monumental run,” said Viz Media Vice President - Magazines and Shonen Jump Editor-in-Chief Yumi Hoashi. “We’re pleased to be giving Dragon Ball Z a substantial celebratory send-off befitting of its stature within our company and among readers worldwide!”
