EW Spotlights Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer from Joss Whedon

The January 12 issue of Entertainment Weekly (EW) picked the launch of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BTVS) #1 (JAN070051D) and ongoing series as one of the big events of 2007, spiking consumer interest for the new title and other BTVS collections from Dark Horse Comics!

Landing at #8 on EW’s top 20 entertainment events of the year in the Whitney Pastorek-written article “News + Notes: 2007 Forecast,” Dark Horse’s Buffy #1 joins pop culture giants like The Simpsons, Harry Potter, Transformers and Spider-Man as a property not to be missed.

Presenting the previously unfilmed “Season Eight” of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV program, the new book continues the adventures of Buffy Summers, picking up many months after the seventh season’s explosive conclusion. The initial four-part storyline is written by Whedon and features artwork by Georges Jeanty, setting the stage for future arcs by different creators. Though the television series finale saw Sunnydale being swallowed by the Hellmouth, monsters still exist on Earth, and despite her attempts to lead a normal life, Buffy is drawn once again into the eternal conflict between good and evil. With thousands of nascent Slayers in desperate need of training, Buffy and her friends in the “Scooby Gang” will have their hands full in this new title!

Carrying an Order Increase Cut-Off (OIC) date of Friday, February 23, Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 is scheduled for delivery March 7, and will ship with a regular cover by Jo Chen and a 1-in-4 variant cover by Jeanty & Dave Stewart. Additionally, Dark Horse is offering special ordering incentives on the debut issue, giving Diamond customers the opportunity to receive free signed lithographs of Chen’s cover. Under the terms of these incentives, for every 50 copies ordered of Buffy #1, retailers will receive a Free BTVS #1 50-Copy Litho Signed by Chen (JAN070052J), while retailers ordering 100 copies of JAN070051D will receive one Free BTVS #1 100-Copy Litho Signed by Chen & Whedon (JAN070053J). Both lithographs are scheduled to ship March 28; please see your January Previews Retailer Order Form for more details. (Please Note: The free signed litho incentive is available with your January Previews initial order only.)

Considered by fans and critics alike to be a modern horror TV classic with a liberal dose of soap opera drama, Buffy has remained remarkably popular since its initial run ended. You can profit from the property’s comic book return with Dark Horse’s trade paperback collections, including the BTVS: The Origin (STAR10112V), Oz (STAR15561V), Dust Waltz (STAR08424V), Bad Blood (STAR11048V), Past Lives (STAR14727V) and Tales of the Slayers (STAR15013V) TPs and Ring of Fire GN (STAR11743V), among others. Furthermore, fans looking for a glimpse ahead can find it in Joss Whedon’s Fray: Future Slayer TP (STAR20164V), which chronicles the exploits of the 26th century heir to Buffy’s legacy.
