Comics & Classrooms: Neil Gaiman Sandman Poster & Bookmark to “Explore Your Dreams @ Your Library®”
Comics & Classrooms reports on schools, libraries, and teachers that
are using comic books and related materials for educational purposes, which can
in turn lead to sales and partnership opportunities for local
retailers.
In cooperation with DC Comics, the American Library Association (ALA) created a poster and bookmark featuring Neil Gaiman's The Sandman for its Fall 2003 "@ your library®" Campaign for America's Libraries. Featuring art by P. Craig Russell, the poster and bookmark contain the headline, "A Book Is A Dream You Hold In Your Hands," and are designed to celebrate Gaiman's The Sandman mythology, the comic book medium, literacy, and storytelling, inviting readers of all ages to their local libraries.
"As graphic novels become a more important category for libraries, Sandman is a perfect choice to attract readers and we're glad to be working with the ALA on this beautiful poster," said DC President & Publisher Paul Levitz.
ALA Graphics also produced a DC Comics super-hero poster and bookmark, "The World's Greatest Heroes @ your library®," which has proved to be a perennial bestseller for the ALA since its debut in 2000. In 2002, ALA Graphics created the "Alfred E. Neuman @ your library®" poster and bookmark, in coordination with MAD Magazine.
ALA Graphics supports the mission of the ALA through the development and distribution of quality products that promote libraries, literacy, and lifelong learning. ALA Graphics posters are created with the library and educational world in mind. This includes schools, day care centers, literacy programs, and libraries of every kind.
"@ your library®," The Campaign for America's Libraries, is the ALA's multi-year, public education initiative to speak loudly and clearly about the value of libraries and librarians in the 21st century. The campaign, which launched to the public during National Library Week 2001, is designed to showcase the unique and vital role played by public, school, academic, and special libraries across the United States.
The Sandman poster sells for $12.00 and 100 Sandman bookmarks sell for $7.00. Both, along with the DC Super-Heroes and Alfred E. Neuman posters and bookmarks are sold online at www.alastore.ala.org.
