Topps, WizKids Announce MLB SportsClix
In conjunction with Major League Baseball (MLB), The Topps Company
and WizKids LLC have announced plans for an all-new, baseball-themed
collectible miniatures game (CMG) -- MLB SportsClix -- that will
launch in March 2004, just in time for the 2004 MLB season's spring
training!
Featuring real MLB players as collectible figures, MLB SportClix will let gamers take the role of team managers, organizing their own teams to compete on baseball diamond-shaped play mats. Using a similar system to such best-selling WizKids games as Mage Knight, HeroClix, and others, each figure will feature a dial base, with ability ratings based on that player's real life statistics, and special MLB SportsClix dice will also factor into the game.
The initial offerings will consist of:
• Two presorted Starter Kits, both of which will include a nine-player team (with all figures visible in the packaging), a stadium play mat, special dice, and rules.
• A three-figure, randomly sorted Booster Pack for the specialty market carrying a SRP of $6.99.
• A two-figure, randomly sorted Booster Pack for the mass market carrying a SRP of $4.99.
Additional releases are also planned, including a World Series-themed expansion scheduled to debut in time for 2004's World Series.
