About Kat Kan
About Kat Kan: Kat has been a comics fan since she started with Little Lulu and Richie Rich in second grade. She graduated to Batman and The Spirit in third grade, Green Lantern and Hawkman were her top heroes in middle school, then she took a break for a few years. She rediscovered comics in college with Elfquest, and has advocated for graphic novels in libraries since 1984. She has been a librarian since 1984, and has worked exclusively as a young adult librarian since 1988. Voice of Youth Advocates has published her column on comics and graphic novels, "Graphically Speaking," since 1995; it appears three times a year, in the February, June, and October issues. She's married and has two sons, one of whom is a manga and Barry Ween fan; her younger son is just learning to read and you can bet he'll have plenty of comics around. She currently resides in Monroe, Michigan where her husband is pursuing his new career as a minister.
