Captain Blue Hen Comics in Newark, DE, received a prestigious launch into Free Comic Book Day 2011 with a proclamation from the Office of the Governor of the State of Delaware honoring the store’s participation in the community and the 10th anniversary of FCBD.
Pictured here, the proclamation reads, in part:
“Governor [Jack] Markell and Lieutenant Governor [Matthew] Denn recognize Captain Blue Hen Comics for their volunteerism and their community awareness. Free Comic Book Day provides an opportunity for the entire community to enjoy the many aspects of comics as a true American art form, while raising funds for local organizations. We extend our sincere appreciation for all your contributions to the community. Congratulations on reaching this anniversary milestone.”
"We are touched by this recognition and we are very proud of Free Comic Book Day,” said owner Joe Murray. “Captain Blue Hen has collected a tremendous amount of food for local food banks and donations for schools, libraries and art charities in our community. Just as importantly, we've had a lot of fun celebrating comics. Hopefully the First State is paving the way for more state and national recognition of our little holiday and independent comic retailers' community efforts."
Congratulations to Joe and the staff of Captain Blue Hen Comics on receiving well-earned recognition for their many contributions to their community, and for drawing attention to Free Comic Book Day 2011.
