Retail Beat: Omaha, NE’s Krypton Comics Hosts Charity Screening of Superman: The Movie
On November 13, Omaha, NE's Krypton Comics and its owner, Dean
Phillips, teamed with Cox Communications, Douglas Theaters, and The
Reader to host a special charity screening of Superman: The Movie,
with proceeds benefiting the Christopher Reeve Paralysis
Foundation.
Based directly on DC Comics' Man of Steel, Warner Bros.' Superman: The Movie was originally released in 1978 and spawned three sequels. Directed by Richard Donner, the motion picture marked the first appearance of the late Christopher Reeve as Superman/Clark Kent, and is still regarded as one of the best super-hero films of all time.
Reeve, who passed away on October 10, was paralyzed in an equestrian accident in 1995, and devoted the remainder of his life to finding a cure for himself and others who are similarly afflicted. (To learn more about the CRPF, visit http://www.christopherreeve.org.)
"Superman has always been my favorite character," said Phillips. "I was saddened by Reeve's death and wanted to give something back to the man who brought Superman to life on the big screen."
Made possible by Warner Bros. Pictures' donation of a print of Superman, the event was organized by Phillips and hosted at Douglas Theaters' Cinema Center Theater. With tickets costing just $5.00 a piece, the screening attracted a large number of attendees. Among them was actor Jeff East, who played young Clark Kent in the movie, and made a special appearance to sign autographs and answer questions for the fans.
Best of all, the screening raised an outstanding $800.00 for the CRPF. On behalf of everyone at Diamond, congratulations to Phillips and Krypton Comics for a job well done!
