Otomo's Hipira Rises at Dark Horse
The legendary creator of Akira will bring his distinctive brand of
storytelling to a new children's tale starring a charming denizen of the dark in
Dark Horse Comics' Hipira: The Little Vampire HC (JAN050085, $13.95), a
48-page story written by Katsuhiro Otomo and illustrated by Shinji
Kimura.
The popularity of Dark Horse's Akira TPs - as well as Domu, The Legend of Mother Sarah, and many other works - illustrate the high regard in which manga readers hold Otomo. Fans of his collaborations with Kimura (which include the Akira anime) should also be enchanted by this new title for readers of all ages who enjoy The Nightmare Before Christmas, Monsters Inc., and similarly fun "dark" stories.
Set in the vampire city of Saruta -- where the sun never rises -- Hipira will follow precocious young vampire Hipira-Kun and her best friend, a fairy named Soul, as they trigger a wave of games, pranks, and adventures that are unusual even for the citizens of their supernatural city.
The book is scheduled to ship on April 27.
