Dark Horse Gives Retailers “100%” with Kull: The Hate Witch

No caption.Eisner Award-winning creator David Lapham turns from Stray Bullets to steel blades to pen the exciting exploits of Robert E. Howard’s Atlantean conqueror in Dark Horse Comics’ Kull: The Hate Witch #1 (SEP100009D, $3.50), beginning a four-issue limited series that launches Dark Horse’s “100%” campaign.

Beginning in October with Kull: The Hate Witch as its “100% Man” title, followed by Conan: Road of Kings (“100% Adventure”), and Robert E. Howard’s Savage Sword of Conan anthology (“100% Violence”) in November, Dark Horse is vigorously working to attract new, younger readers ahead of the Conan movie in 2011. The campaign will encompass banner & print ads, social networking, a "Man Tips" Twitter feed, temporary tattoos distributed at October’s New York Comic-Con, and more. This should garner attention for the limited series when writer Lapham and Predators artist Gabriel Guzman reintroduce Kull and his supporting cast: Brule, Tu, Queen Igraine, and others. Dark Horse’s success in bringing Howard’s other barbarian, Conan, to comics, combined with Kull’s longstanding popularity with consumers, should make this four-part series an unqualified hit.

Kull, King of Valusia, rules over a city seething with insurgency and danger. Adding to his troubles, an ancient enemy fueled by hate and wielding an evil sorcery is eager to destroy Kull’s city, and all of humanity with it. Seeking safety, the king flees to the land of his exile – Atlantis -- in this 32-page, full-color debut with a cover by Tom Fleming.
