New Shipping Box Design Cuts Box Waste for Diamond Retailers

Oversized hardcovers, clamshell toy packaging, and odd sized items – retailers’ shipping boxes filled with reorders from Diamond’s Olive Branch Distribution Center carry a lot more than just comics and graphic novels. And while the current packing system works well, there can still be additional cardboard waste as a result of the ongoing challenge to pack shipments efficiently – even an additional box sometimes.

But that’s all about to change as Diamond begins using a new box design for reorder shipments, one that reduces the amount of extraneous cardboard packaging.

Diamond Director of Operations Debby Salvatore says the new kind of corrugated cardboard shipping box should save retailers money on shipping and cut waste. “We tried to design a flexible box to accommodate the different products we ship – one that was sturdy enough to handle the rigors of UPS shipping to stores.”

Diamond will begin using the new box starting next month with shipments of September 15.

“Of course, we’re interested in receiving feedback on the new packing method to ensure that it’s meeting the shipping standards that comic shop retailers expect from Diamond,” said Salvatore. “To that end, we’ve added a survey that retailers can fill out when they receive the new box.”

Retailers are encouraged to rate and give feedback about the new box every time they receive a shipment by completing the New Diamond Shipping Box Survey, which you may take now.
