This year, there are over 2,000 items part of Diamond’s Summer Sales Sizzler. We know that it can be difficult to keep track of all the great on-sale items that could be of benefit to your shop, so we’re happy to present Sizzler recommendations from some of the most knowledgeable members of the Diamond staff.
Today’s selection comes from Jim Kuhoric, Diamond’s Director of the Purchasing Department (Print Team). Jim suggests:

Some things are timelessly classic: whether they are hot rods, music, or in this case, comics. Nearly thirty years ago we were introduced to two series that defined the independent scene and really laid the foundations for Image and Vertigo with ground breaking creator-owned mature readers fare. It was 1983 when First Comics published Mike Grell’s new creation, Jon Sable. Sable was an athlete turned mercenary after his family was slain. With strong ties to Ian Flemming’s James Bond, Sable’s adventures were the thinking man’s action comics.
Similarly, in 1984, John Ostrander and Tim Truman hit the First Comics scene with their post apocalyptic title, GrimJack. In this classic creator-owned title, we were introduced to John Gaunt, an ex-military gun-for-hire operating out of Munden’s Bar in the pan-dimensional city of Cynosure. The stories were set in a world of magic and technology where Truman’s stunning vision of the brutal world played out in amazing images of the dystopian future. GrimJack was one part Mad Max, one part Blade Runner, and all cutting edge.
When IDW brought these two essential indie titles back into circulation with a series of remastered trades, I was very excited to relive a bit of the past and see just how far ahead of their time these books were. If you missed out on them during the initial PREVIEWS offerings, the Sizzler Sale gives you a perfect opportunity bring in some copies and hand sell them to your best Vertigo customers. These books are gems to uncover for fans that have never read them, and are a wonderful addition to bookshelves for the readers that were there that first time around.
