Best Retailing Memory: "After the big Loma Prieta 1989 earthquake our original store of two years was still standing but geologists who went through the store to see if it was stable gave us a red flag. It had to be demolished. It was a big decision for us whether to continue on and it was the community that made the decision easy. We would reopen. Customers asked us, 'Are you going to open again?' Then they offered help. They said, 'I have a truck to help, I have a place for you to move to, I have muscles to help you move, we want you back.' We had so many voices saying stay. We reopened in November of 1989. To this day our original location at the corner of 4th St. and San Benito St. in Hollister is empty of business. It is right now a grass lot. Someday someone will build there and they are very likely to find a box of comics or two buried under the grass, remnants after our original building was demolished," said Bill Mifsud.
